Hi Everyone! This is Priscilla Booth, Ronnie and Michael’s mom. The guys got so desperate to get a newsletter out (and haven’t had the time to write one) that they asked me if I would write one for them. This is great, now I can talk about anything I want to and brag on my sons and Jim without anyone saying I shouldn’t! Remember as you read this that they are the ones that told me to write it. Let me see, where do I start?
The last newsletter was sent a week before our Homecoming 2006 in Lakeland, Florida, so you may not know they sang to a sold out audience. What a night! We were also privileged to have Anthony Burger as our special guest that night. I had never seen Anthony in a full concert and I sat there in awe watching him give his all as he played the piano for us. When you realized his parents were told he would never be able to do anything with his hands because of having them burned as a child and then saw him play as he did, WOW, you certainly could see God’s mighty hand on him. As most of you know, however, that was to be Anthony Burger’s last performance in the states. The next day he and the guys went to perform on the Gaither Cruise to the Caribbean. The Lord took Anthony home while doing what he loved best, playing the piano for his Lord and Savior. Many of you have asked if the Homecoming program was taped. Much to our regret it was not.
Watching Anthony go to be with the Lord right in front of them served as a reality check for the guys. They saw how fragile life is and how quickly anyone can be called home without any notice. Ronnie was close to Anthony’s age and realized it was time to make some changes for the sake of his health. Let me add something here: I don’t think most people understand the physical demands on the singers who travel in order to minister to others. They don’t get proper rest, they don’t eat well or regularly, and they always have to be upbeat and performing at their best. Some may say, “Well then, just don’t travel.” Maybe they don’t think about how depressing this world would be if there were no singers blessing the hearts of others and meeting people’s needs as so many gospel singers do through their songs. How blessed we are to have men and women who are dedicated to this wonderful profession! Realizing you can only push yourself so much, the guys decided Ronnie should take some time off and get some much needed rest. Paul Lancaster was available and graciously stepped up to fill in for Ronnie until he could rejoin the group. I have received many emails from you saying what a wonderful job he is doing. As for Ronnie, his plans are to rejoin the guys on May 18th in Mason City, Iowa.
Coinciding with Ronnie’s return, the guys are working on a new CD due out this August. Here’s a hint of what’s in store on this recording: the title will be Harmony. For those who were at our Homecoming 2005 in Lakeland and saw the group’s “Western” rendition of the Sons of the Pioneer style songs, you will be happy to hear they are also finishing their Western CD due out the end of this summer.
Since our last newsletter, Ronnie and Michael’s dad has released a CD, “The Best of Ron Booth Sr” which has 11 original songs with Ron Booth Sr singing tenor with the Rebels Quartet from 1967-1979. Several of these songs have been chosen by Michael to sing with the current Booth Brothers. This recording shows where Ronnie and Michael received their musical foundation and inspiration to carry on their dad’s legacy. You may hear sound clips by going to our Online Store under CDs.
Here’s where I can do my bragging on my boys and Jim. They wouldn’t even tell you about the awards they won, but I can because I know their hearts. Their objective is to bring glory to God all the time whether they win or not, and they know that it is only because of His choosing to use them that they have the talent they possess.
On Tuesday evening, April 26, 2006 they were awarded a record-setting eight SGN Music Awards in the following categories:
Song of the Year – “He Saw It All”
Album of the Year – The Blind Man Saw It All
Male Group of the Year
Traditional Southern Song – “He Saw It All”
Fan Favorite Artist of the Year
Pacesetter Award (This award is given to any artist, song, album, individual, company, etc. that raised the standard in the industry that year.)
Male Vocalist of the Year – Ronnie Booth
Songwriter of the Year (Artist) – Jim Brady
The guys also performed on the program that evening, singing their #1 hit “He Saw It All” to a packed auditorium. Nominees for the SGN Music awards were chosen by the staff of SouthernGospelNews.com. The winners were then chosen by the fans and readers of SouthernGospelNews.com. Ronnie, Michael and Jim are grateful for the nominations by the staff and support of the fans that voted for them and have expressed their heartfelt thanks.
I have been working with the boys in the office for almost a year and a half now. I have received many of your emails and phone calls about you wanting songs or soundtracks from CDs that are no longer being sold. I kept telling the guys they needed to make them available to the people. They’re just too good to sit on the shelf. Well, we’re going to re-release the first Vintage CD called “Walkin’ on the Good Side” recorded in 1999. We will have the original CD, a CD with all the soundtracks, and individual soundtracks available. Watch our store for them in the next few weeks.
I better stop now or they won’t ever let me write another newsletter and you won’t want me to! Let me just thank all of you for your support of Ronnie, Michael, and Jim. Ronnie and Michael have always been sons to be proud of and I know Jim’s mother feels the same way about him. I know their desire is first and foremost to be the men our Lord Jesus wants them to be and to use their talent to give you hope, encouragement, and blessings through their songs.
God Bless You All,
Priscilla
